💜Aubrey’s Story

In November 2025, Aubrey underwent what was meant to be a life-saving hysterectomy. What followed was not a simple recovery.
Immediately after surgery, she was readmitted to the hospital due to severe complications that were too much to manage at home. While hospitalized, she developed hospital-acquired pneumonia. She was eventually discharged - still incredibly weak - but determined to push forward and return to her life.
Since that hospitalization, Aubrey has been diagnosed with:
Systemic lupus erythematosus (Lupus)
Superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS)
Gastroparesis (severe)
Her lupus- a chronic autoimmune disease - means her immune system attacks her own body, causing inflammation, fatigue and making it harder for her to heal. It complicates infections. It complicates recovery. It complicates everything.
Her SMAS and severe gastroparesis have left her stomach essentially paralyzed. She cannot tolerate even a sip of water without violently becoming sick. Severe dehydration made her veins so fragile that a midline catheter had to be placed for ongoing access.
She was later rushed to intensive care when she began turning septic. Imaging confirmed an abscess requiring emergency surgery to place a drain and control the infection. Soon after, another scan revealed a second, even larger abscess near her liver. This is no longer just recovery. This is survival.
In Aubrey’s Own Words
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated to be going home to my normal life. Because it’s not the same normal anymore. My body is different. My strength feels gone. Everything feels heavier. My life will never be the same. But I am still here.”
And that is her strength.
Why Support Is Needed
Aubrey is facing:
-
Ongoing hospitalizations
-
Specialist care
-
Infectious disease treatment
-
Surgical follow-ups
-
IV access and medical equipment
-
Extensive time away from work
The financial burden is significant, and the road ahead is uncertain. This benefit is about giving Aubrey the space to focus on healing - not bills, not stress, not the fear of what comes next.
If you know Aubrey, you know her heart. Now she needs ours.
